Telegram X is the second Telegram client, published under the name Telegram LLC, built on TDLib instead of the codebase powering the standard app. The practical difference shows up immediately: it opens faster, scrolls smoother, and treats animation as something to be enjoyed rather than tolerated. For a small team running support or community threads through Telegram, that speed difference compounds over a few hundred messages a day.
It is listed as a Social app, and the store copy is honest about what it is: an alternative client with higher speed, slicker animations and experimental features. That last word matters. Telegram X is where things land before they are settled.
The interface feels lighter than you expect
Chats stack in a single column with a search bar pinned at the top, and typing a couple of letters pulls in matching people, groups and message text at once. Global search across message history is quick enough that you stop bothering to remember which chat a link was in.
Swipes and long presses do more here. Sliding a chat reveals archive and mute controls, and pressing a message brings up reply, forward and pin without a menu jump. Once you have muscle memory for it, triaging a busy support group takes seconds.
The theming engine is the part people notice first. Telegram X lets you build custom color schemes rather than pick from a short list, which sounds cosmetic until you are colour-coding a workspace account against a personal one to avoid sending the wrong message to the wrong audience.
Why founders end up on Telegram in the first place
Telegram’s appeal for early-stage teams is the direct line. Channels broadcast to an audience with no algorithm deciding who sees what, groups handle community discussion, and bots take care of onboarding flows, FAQs and payment notifications. Everything syncs across devices, so a message answered on a laptop is marked read on the phone.
Telegram X inherits all of it because it talks to the same Telegram servers. Your channels, your bot admin rights, your saved messages, all present. What changes is the wrapper around them, and the wrapper is where daily friction lives.
One caveat: secret chats and some of the more niche settings historically arrived later here than in the main client, and a few features behave slightly differently. If your workflow depends on one specific advanced setting, check it before you migrate the team.
Running Telegram X on a Windows machine
There is no native Windows build of Telegram X. Telegram Desktop exists and is a separate product; if you want the X client on a PC you are running the Android app through something like BlueStacks, and the route to download Telegram X for PC takes a few minutes, most of which is the emulator itself rather than the app.
Two setup details matter more than the rest. First, log in with your phone number and the confirmation code arrives in your existing Telegram session on your handset, not by SMS, so keep the phone next to you. Second, enable clipboard sharing between Windows and the emulator before you start working, because the whole point of a desktop session is pasting long-form announcements, invite links and bot tokens without retyping them.
Keyboard input is fine. Enter sends, and shift-enter breaks a line, which is what you want when drafting a channel post. The one clunky part is file handling: dragging a PDF from your desktop into a chat goes through the emulator’s shared folder, so it is slower than a native app and slower than Telegram Desktop.
The experimental label is not decoration
Because Telegram X is where new ideas get tried, occasional oddities appear. A layout tweak lands, a setting moves, notification behaviour shifts for a build or two. For personal use that is interesting. For a channel your customers rely on, it is a reason to keep the standard client installed as a fallback on at least one device.
Run it as your fast daily driver, not as the only place your business account lives.
